Connecticut Eats · dated by address, researched October 2026

Connecticut's oldest restaurants

55 places from our hand-checked lists with a known year at the address where they stand now, oldest first. Two inns open the list: 1754 House in Woodbury, there since 1754, and The Griswold Inn in Essex, since 1801.

How the years were checked

A year here belongs to the address, not the business. Frank Pepe opened next door at 163 Wooster Street in 1925 but has baked at 157 since 1936, so 1936 is the year listed; Louis' Lunch started as a lunch wagon in 1895, and its building was moved to Crown Street in 1975. Each year comes from the restaurant's own history page or local news. A year is a fact, not a rating, and only places we checked by hand have one; the app's other 9,302 restaurants don't.

How we checked: We looked each place up by hand in October 2026 and kept it only with a 2025 or 2026 source: its own site or menu, a dated post, local news, or a tourism listing, plus a check of the street address. Shacks and dairy bars that close for part of the year are marked seasonal, with their dates where they post them, so look before a long drive. Anything without a current source stayed off. No review site fed this list, and the order is by years at the same address, not by anyone's rating. Hours and menus change; call ahead.

The same list is the Oldest Places guide in the Connecticut Eats app and the web search. What these places serve is in the apizza, lobster roll, hot dog and burger, and diner and dairy bar guides.
